As part of ‘The Black Eyed Peas,’ it is not uncommon to see Will.i.am decked out in futuristic gear and using innovative technology. Beyond the music, Will.i.am is founder and chief executive of i.am+, a tech startup that brings ideas to life.
As noted by Reuters, “I.am+, the tech startup founded by pop star and entrepreneur will.i.am, has raised $117 million in venture funding” and “announced its entry into the corporate computing market with a voice assistant for customer service” (early November 2017).
“The company, founded in 2012, initially focused on consumer electronics devices such as headphones. The new artificial intelligence product, similar to Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa, marks a sharp departure for the firm, which now employs about 300 people” (Reuters).
Will.i.am told Reuters that the company is developing a voice assistant called Omega.
This voice AI platform will provide quality customer service through a chatbot, which has been in use since July 2012 and will soon include a voice phone system.
“I wanted to create something that allows us to do many things. There’s so much you can do with a voice platform. One of those things is handling hundreds of thousands of customers’ inquiries about their data plans simultaneously. If it can do that, your imagination’s the limit.” – Will.i.am/Reuters
Iam+’s website describes Omega as “a voice-first A.I. platform that delivers natural and engaging user experiences for organizations of any size.” It will stand out by “making voice, text, and rich customer experiences accessible whenever and wherever your customers are and via the best interaction model for each customer’s needs.”
Key features of Omega also include “[n]atural Language Understanding capabilities, contextual deep learning, a conversational engine, automatic speech recognition, and text to speech technologies.”
