Jennifer Phillips: Kendrick Lamar Gifts Quadriplegic ‘Day One’ Fan With Wheelchair-Accessible Van

Ten years ago, Jennifer Phillips became a quadriplegic after injuring her spinal cord in a car accident.

“Since then I have continued to live my life the best way I can with a smile” she wrote on her YouTube page.

“I’ve gotten my bachelors degree, traveled, skiied, gone to tons of concerts and much more” she added.

There was only one thing that made her commute more difficult – the van that she has been using since 2006.

“To travel we have to rent modified vans which are way more expensive than regular rental cars” she wrote.

“Sometimes my mom has to take off of work to take me to appointments in her truck and transfer me back and forth from my manual chair (usually in the rain since my van does not run then) which I can not push on my own or sit in comfortably.”

Phillips, a Kendrick Lamar fan, was in for a huge life-changing surprise when she attended the Dallas concert for his DAMN. tour (July 14th).

They met backstage, where he spent some time with her and gave her a special DAMN. tour jacket with a personal message to her written on it:

“Thank you for always supporting me. You[‘re] a inspiration for me. You are strong and positive. You[‘re] kind and beautiful. For all the years of inspiring me, the least I can do is make sure [you’re] comfortable driving the city. A gift from me to you. You[‘re] always appreciated! — K. Lamar.”

Phillips, who has been to every Kendrick Lamar show that he had in Dallas, took to social media to express her appreciation:

“I was a big fan of music and concerts before my injury but I never supported and loved a label like theirs before” she wrote in a caption on Instagram.

“Of course they have great music but they are also great people. None of them have ever treated me like a stranger or a charity case…I didn’t meet them because I’m in a wheelchair. I just know great people (shout out to @bluethegreat for the initial in person introduction to Dot & Q).”

“I never supported them for any benefits like this…Their music and shows were enough for me. But this is amazing and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love you all and always will. Thank God for you Kendrick and I will continue to pray for you. And like I said, next time I’m driving myself to your show.”
