After 59 years, the Mr. Clean brand is being revamped with a fresh face.
The original cartoon featured a muscular white man with an all white outfit and a gold earring.
Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble Co. launched a contest on social media in September (2016) using #TheNextMrClean.
As noted by Cincinnati Business Courier, hundreds of video entries were reviewed following open casting calls in New York and Los Angeles.
One person in particular caught their eye the most — Atlanta native Mike Jackson.
Jackson is featured in a 2017 limited edition Mr. Clean calendar and will make his Super Bowl ad debut in Houston on Feb 5.
The 30-sec spot is worth $5 million.
In an interview with Yahoo Beauty, Jackson revealed that he has a lot in common with the character. “I’m actually kind of a neat freak,” he told the source.
“Over the holidays I had my family over, and my mom would, you know, move things and I would have to move them back. I don’t think too many guys care about that kind of stuff, but, like, I care about how dishes are washed. It’s a distinct but telling quirk.”
Cincinatti Business Courier also reported that Jackson works in sports marketing, events management and emceeing,
During the Super Bowl, he will join Denver Broncos linebacker DeMarcus Ware to introduce Mr. Clean’s new commercial.
