The incredibly catchy “Grow Food” has received millions of views across social media sites. It pushes the non-profit organization’s mission to “use food as a tool to build health, wealth and social change.”
It also raises awareness about food deserts and urges people to transform them into hotspots for agriculture.
According to their official site, “Grow Food is the culminating project of Appetite For Change’s Summer 2016 Youth Employment & Training Program. Urban Youth wanted to share their message – the importance of actively choosing healthy foods.”
The video, directed by Chancellor Tha Beast in collaboration with Beats & Rhymes, shows youth in a community garden, rapping about wanting healthy food options at school and in their neighborhood.
As noted by StarTribune, about “1.6 million Minnesotans lack easy access to healthy food [and] Minnesota ranks seventh-worst in the nation.”
Grow Food is an empowering anthem that is shaking the world. It serves as a shining moment for forgotten communities and people that have been ignored. Most importantly, it inspires youth everywhere to use their talent and voices to spark positive change.
