Nigerian recording artist, songwriter and performer Wizkid has some exciting news for his supporters.
This summer, he performed to a packed house at Barclays Center and surprised everyone when he brought out Swizz Beats.
Wizkid has been very successful with his crossover into the American mainstream music scene. He has worked with Drake and drew in supporters from the U.K. through his collaboration with Skepta.
According to NotJustOk, a music website, WizKid’s latest move could skyrocket him to global superstar status.
The source reported that “Wizkid will receive a 7 figure advance (in US Dollars) and sign to RCA Records who will handle his distribution deal in the United States.”
Pulse wrote: “It was revealed on September 13, 2016 Wizkid had signed a deal Sony Music Entertainment and RCA Records.”
Could you imagine two major record labels fighting for you? Well that’s what happened for him.
NotJustOk’s head of content Ovie O. explained that Universal Music and Sony Music had been going back and forth to win him over but he liked Sony’s deal proposal more.
He will be on the same platform as Davido (Sony) and Ayo Jay (RCA). We wonder if this will lead to collaborations between the artists in the future.
This is huge news and will hopefully pave the way for more African artists to achieve international success!
